This Presentation will present a new polyurethane film former and its use in various hair styling formulations. Key test methods were used to determine the attributes and efficacy of the new waterborne polyurethane polymer, and compared to currently used hair styling polymer film former.
The new polyurethane dispersion offers the perfect solution to hair styling formulations: an excellent high humidity curl retention, strong and durable hold and high flexibility. SOFW Journal 9-2010 - Polyurethane Film Formers and Polyurea Powder for Cosmetic Applications:
Polymeric film formers are usually added in cosmetic formulations for various purposes. In color cosmetic and sun care formulations, they maintain the product in place under all conditions and through all day, by improving it transfer resistance, it water resistance and its long lasting properties. Whereas, in hair styling and hair fixative products, film formers are the main active ingredient to hold the hairs by creating a transparent substantive film on the hair fibers. Sunscreen sprays and lotions can benefit in a variety of ways when formulated with the polyurethane dispersion Baycusan® C 1000 from Bayer MaterialScience. Although the film-forming polymer itself does not contain any UV-absorbing components, it can boost the sun protection factor (SPF) of a formulation.
